We are excited to share that South Ockendon and Aveley will soon be transformed into a giant interactive game, thanks to National Lottery funding from Sport England through the Place Partnership Expansion programme.
Beat the Street will run from 23 April to 21 May 2025 and aims to encourage people of all ages to get outdoors and be more active. The initiative turns the town into a real-life game, with special sensors – known as Beat Boxes – being installed on lampposts throughout the area. Prior to the game, primary school pupils from participating schools will be provided with cards while parents and teachers will also receive a card from the school so they can accompany children. The wider community can pick up a free contactless card from a distribution point listed on the website www.beatthestreet.me. Alternatively, players aged 13+ can choose to participate via a mobile app, which can be downloaded via Google Play or iOS App Store.
