We want to help you find ways to do this no matter what your ability or financial position is.

Active Essex is free resource that is there to help you get and stay active, from working out where to start through to helping keep you fit and active once you know what you like to do.

Where to start?

There's something for everyone!

  • Free activities:
    • Taking care of your physical and mental health doesn't need to cost a lot of money and Active Essex are here to help you find free or cheap ways of getting and staying active. This page is here to help you find those activities.
  • Children and Young People:
    • Getting the best start in life can set healthy habits going forward. This page can be used to help find activities and ways to get children and young people in your lives keen to take part in activities that will help them stay fit and active later on in life.
  • Living with a disability or long-term health condition:
    • Active Essex's 'Essex All Together' is a community for those living with a disability or long-term health condition that supports, inspires, shares and promotes the benefits of moving more as well as the opportunities available.
    • The All Together Activity tool finder makes sure that everyone can find an activity that suits their needs.
  • Older adults:
    • As our bodies change we need to find new ways of taking care of ourselves.
    • 'Able like Mabel’ has been made to help you stay fit and active whilst at home with some movements you can easily introduce to your daily routine. These simple movements will support you in completing every day jobs, and help keep you steady, strong and able, making sure you can enjoy your life now, and in your years to come.
  • Women:
    • This Girl Can Essex is all about getting women of all shapes, sizes, ages and abilities active and involved. However you choose to move there's something for you and this webpage can help you find just that.




Impulse Leisure centres hold a wide variety of group exercise classes for all abilities and needs - there's something for everyone, whatever your physical ability or financial position.
